Tuesday, September 6 (Bryanston, Johannesburg)

First day of school!!  We all got up early this morning, ate breakfast, and headed off to school; we had to get there by 7:15.  Jonathon's favorite part of the day was computers, of course; he loves anything having to do with technology.  Teresa liked PE; they played lots of games.  Esther enjoyed meeting all her new friends: Isabella, Coleen, Chloe, and others, and her favorite subject was science.  Becca's favorite subject was computer class, and she also met lots of new friends.  Ivan liked recess best; of course. :) He's very social and made lots of new friends.
I was very grateful to get out of our apartment and away from my siblings.  Africaans was confusing (I couldn't understand a word), chemistry and maths were review, English and history were my favorite subjects.  Across the board, the pupils loved the 'new kids'' accents, and we were asked to repeat names and 'just say something!'

  1. Sara - SOOO glad to hear the first day went so well!! If you have to be there by 7:15am (wow - early), what time do you all get home? Do you ride a bus, or is Mom the chauffeur? :-)

Maddy and Samantha are still at school; I go to pick them up at 3:30pm. Can't wait to see how their first days went!! I'll send out a pic soon of them all dressed and ready to go.

  2. Today we got home around 2:30, but we didn't have athletics; on the days we have athletics and after school activities, we'll get home later. School's here don't have bus systems, so Mom chauffeurs us around.

  3. Sounds like a great day was had by all...except maybe a little too quiet for mom. However I do believe she will find something to fill her time and be productive. I can't imagine her not!

  4. 7:15 will work for some of the Derr clan, but I know there are one or two who wishes the world started at 9 or 10! Will it be this early every day?

Glad you all had a good day.

    What accent?!

  5. "What accent?", heh. Here's a great opportunity to show off all of your memorisation - when they ask you to "just say something" start going thru all of the verses you memorised for competition!
